The award winning Longfield Patient Reference Group (PRG) was formed in March 2011. Patient participation is a partnership between patients, GPs and their Practice. Such groups aim to help patients take more responsibility for their health, contribute to improvement of services and quality of care, as well as fostering improved communication between the Practice and the patient. This process was set up under the Health & Social Care Act 2012.
If you would like to get involved in the PRG please contact the Secretaries at the Practice or follow the link on this website. Membership is open to all patients, although spatial considerations may limit the number who can attend each meeting; we do also have a 'virtual' group who are contacted via e-mail.
The PRG meets four times a year and currently there are 18 active members which regularly include two GP’s, The Practice Manager and the Practice Secretary. Our Practice has 14,346 patients and the PRG is represented in the age range as follows:-
Care & Residential 2
Clearly this in part reflects the population of the District which has a disproportionate number of retired people, however, the Group would benefit from some representation by younger patients.
The mission statement of the PRG is to “enhance the experience of both patients and staff at the Longfield Medical Centre”. In 2016 we proudly won the Mid-Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) PRG of the Year 2016 award. To achieve our mission, the PRG and the Practice work to toward objectives which enhance our aims. We additionally support the work of the Practice and the treatment of patients by publically engaging with: Mid-Essex CCG; NHS England; Maldon District Council and associated agencies.
The PRG continue to make enhancements to the Practice, creating and updating a patient information folder and a dedicated PRG Noticeboard.
In previous years the group has worked with the Practice to provide a free local taxi telephone line in the reception area; to update the baby changing facilities; to install an updated TV information system in the Waiting Room and to develop the recruitment of new members for the PRG and Virtual PRG.
We would like to know how we can improve our service to you and how you perceive our surgery and staff.
To help us with this, we have set up a virtual patient representation group so that you can have your say. We will ask the members of this representative group some questions from time to time, such as what you think about our opening times or the quality of the care or service you received. We will contact you via email and keep our surveys succinct so it shouldn’t take too much of your time.
We aim to gather around a hundred patients from as broad a spectrum as possible to get a truly representative sample. We need young people, workers, retirees, people with long term conditions and people from non-British ethnic groups.
If you are happy for us to contact you occasionally by email please click the link below to open the sign-up form and complete all the fields.
